Mission Statement

Our mission is to help improve the health and well-being of people and the world we live in, both by encouraging mainstream Americans to discover the advantages and pleasures of vegetarian food, and by providing support and service to the vegetarian community.

Vegetarians of Washington is a non-profit, based in Seattle, for people who choose a vegetarian diet for a variety of reasons: health, environment, compassion for animals, spiritual and more. We provide a friendly, supportive environment for anyone - whatever their current diet or motivation- interested in exploring the many benefits of going meatless. We provide monthly buffet dinners, cooking and nutrition classes, books, information and the biggest Vegetarian food festival in the country - Vegfest - held in the spring of each year at the Seattle Center.

Would you recommend Vegetarians of Washington?

I recently volunteered at the Vegfest in Seattle. When I first heard about this event, I thought "what?". A vegetable festival? I hate vegetables. Well in the end I decided to give it a try, and let me tell you, it was not what I expected. I did not see any vegetables. The Vegetarians of Washington made a very welcoming event, not judging others in what they eat. I loved the friendly atmosphere, and everyone seemed very happy. I even decided to try some food out, not being a vegetarian or vegan, and they were amazing. I completely support the Vegetarians of Washington who encourage people in eating health and having compassion for animals. I would definitely volunteer at this event next year if possible.
