Mission Statement

The Friends of the Greenville County Guardian ad Litem Program is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to raise funds and public awareness in support of the Greenville County Guardian ad Litem Program.

Description

Guardians ad Litem provide a voice for abused and neglected children. Every year hundreds of children are thrown into the Greenville County Family Court system through no fault of their own. These children, who are placed in the custody of the Department of Social Services, need strong advocates to protect their rights. That's the job of specially-trained volunteers within the Greenville County Guardian ad Litem Program.

The Greenville County Guardian ad Litem Program recruits, trains and supervises community volunteers to advocate for the children in the custody of the Department of Social Services. By South Carolina law, volunteer guardians must be represented by an attorney in all court proceedings. Therefore, it is necessary to hire competent legal counsel to stand with these volunteers to advocate for what is in the best interest of these children. The funding raised by the Friends group ensures that these children are represented by an attorney with expertise in family law. We also provide funds for special needs of the children not otherwise covered by the Department of Social Services and give financial support to the Program for the training and supervision of these dedicated volunteers.
