Caters to riders with or without a disability ages 6 years to adult.

We contribute positively, to the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social well-being of
our students. The key focus is to promote growth in confidence and abilities not only
on horseback but also in life and to
achieve their personal best, by the use of equine assisted therapy.

We are about creating awareness of special needs persons and the human dignity they deserve.
With the numbers of people living with disabilities rising. EqDHSD needs the community's support to continue to provide its unique service to those who cannot access such an activity

Description

Equestrians with Disabilities Horse Show Dreams teaches riding lessons to help foster confidence, social opportunities in the community, help to facilitate healthy activities that build their physical, emotional and spiritual strength. By the use of equines (horses). Our horses are gentle and willing to help our clients meet their personal goals.

My husband Joe suffered a debilitating stroke in 2005 and renal failure, through therapeutic
horseback riding has regained his confidence, better balance, and speech. He has gone from
a rider with a horse handler and side walkers to an independent rider and a safety spotter at a
walk and trot. After he started riding therapy he wanted to start showing his horse Fred, but there
was nothing available for his skill level. Although, his challenges are many, with the help of God,
and horse Fred he is making great strides.
In Late 2008 Equestrians with Disabilities Horse Show Dreams was founded . Through all this,
Joe has been the catalyst for this organization. He has the desire and drive to learn more about
horses and riding.
With limited prospects of him being able to show his horse, I contacted the local horse circuits
in the Kansas City area, to see if they would be willing to help provide such an outlet for riders
such as Joe. Pony Express Horse Circuit and Golden Circle Horse Show Circuit has included
EqD classes in their class list for 2009 and beyond and this is just the tip of the iceberg.

For just our 2nd year we have grown and our riders need assistence in their lessons and especially at the horse shows.

People's lives are just better because of this organization! I have been with them for about 3 yrs and they have proven to be ALL ABOUT the students and therapy, not bureaucracy and self-recognition. Students not only learn to ride and care for horses, they come away from it feeling more confident and generally uplifted. This, I can say, is true for volunteers as well :)
