The mission of the Hoosier Oncology Group is t o reduce the burden of cancer through the conduct of high quality research and education, as guided by the collaborative efforts of the IU Simon Cancer Center, academic physician scientists, community cancer investigators, and patient advocates.
The Hoosier Oncology Group was founded in 1985 by leading oncologists, Drs. Patrick Loehrer (current Director of the IU Simon Cancer Center), Lawrence Einhorn (world-recognized leader in prostate and lung cancer), William Fisher, Rafat Ansari and Kenneth Pennington.
These forward-thinkers identified a need for community oncologists to have access to the cutting-edge treatments only found at leading cancer centers and universities. So the Hoosier Oncology Group was born to meet this need.
Today, Hoosier Oncology has over 80 community sites nationwide and several international sites. Our research has been presented as an oral presentation the past 4 out of 5 years at the prestigious annual meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
We are proud of who we are, what we've accomplished and the quality and integrity of our work.
Our primary goal is to eliminate cancer. In this process we strive to increase the survival rate of cancer patients while also increasing the quality of life for cancer patients and their families by having the best treatment options available through their local oncologist.
We thank all our friends, partners and supporters over the years and we look forward to the time when cancer research is no longer needed.
