Mission Statement

Visiting Nurse Service of New York Hospice and Palliative Care is a program of hope and humanity, staffed by people who combine sensitivity and compassion with expert knowledge and skill. Our program gives patients and their families time together at home, enabling them to make the most of each day. The New York Hospice nursing service provides services at home and in nursing homes for people who are at the end of life.

Description

Volunteers are members of the hospice team and provide patient support with supervision of the Volunteer Manager. The volunteer's purpose is to ease the transition from life to death for a patient/family by providing companionship, warmth, understanding, and loving compassion. Those with experience in massage, reiki, alternative therapies or counseling are especially encouraged to volunteer! There are also opportunities for volunteers to work in the office wtih a warm and supporting staff. Please call for more information. (Please note: a minimum committment of six months is required for patient care.)
