The Sheboygan County Volunteer Center is the product of collaboration between the Sheboygan & Plymouth Area United Way and Partners for Community Development, Inc.
In early 2008 the Sheboygan County Volunteer Coordinators Network, a group of local Volunteer Coordinators, identified the need for an entity that would help them with the recruiting, training, and coordination of volunteers. During the latest part of 2009 Partners for Community Development, Inc., current AmeriCorps Program grantee, had the opportunity to assign an AmeriCorps Member to help develop a clearing house entity for volunteers, the Sheboygan County Volunteer Center. Partners provided the AmeriCorps member by freeing up an MSY (Member Service Year) and finding the financial resources to meet the matching requirement of the AmeriCorps grant.
Since the initiation of the Sheboygan County Volunteer Center in November, 2009, Partners for Community Development, Inc. and AmeriCorps members have dedicated time and effort to create the structure and processes needed to effectively run the operations of such a center. During this period of time, under the supervision of Partners staff, a business plan, marketing plan, advertisement material, a web site, and operating process have been developed, tested, and put into place. The Sheboygan County Volunteer Center has its center of operations at Partners for Community Development, Inc. and seeks to serve organizations, agencies, groups, and individuals in the Sheboygan County.
