Mission Statement

The mission of America's Promise is to mobilize people from every sector of American life to build the character and competence of our nation's youth by fulfilling Five Promises for young people.

Description

Philadelphia's Promise recognizes that there are many effective programs already in existence, therefore the intention is to assist these programs to expand and increase the number of children that they serve. In neighborhoods where there are few resources and opportunities for youth, the intention is to assist neighborhood organizations in adopting model programs to meet the needs of their community. This volunteer opportunity looks to connect adults age 18 and older with computer users at Philadelphia's Free Library at 1901 Vine Street. In surveying our community, we learned that computer tutors are needed during after-school hours and on weekends. Youth and some adults that frequent the library are in need of tutoring. Because this is a time consuming process, volunteer tutors are needed to augment efforts of librarians in tutoring computer users at the library.
