Mission Statement

The mission of Uplift a Child Interntional (Former name -Vonumu International) is to identify the poor and needy children, place them in a school, and support them through 10 -12 years of schooling through the high school. This will keep the children off the streets, provide them with the basic skills to develop, and give them an opportunity to emerge as self-reliant and productive members of the society. By the time the children completes high school, they will have the necessary social skills and will be mature enough to plan and work towards a brighter future. Until then, we work with each child in helping the child grow in the right direction.

Description

We are supported 100% by the Public. Currently 3,000 children are going to schools with the help of our sponsors and hard work of volunteers. Most of our children are either with single parent or no parents. They have no proper house to live, no proper people to live, they are in a hopeless situation. We pick them from that situation and give them an oppertunity to get an education. We monitor every child's growth individually with our local volunteers.

I am a full time employee of Discovery Communications since 7 years. Outside my job, I manage this organization as a second full time job (Voluntary) spending almost 2,500 hours per year. I am a beneficiary of such help and got the gift of education through a sponsor's help. I have started this on my own with just 4 children and now it has converted into a beautiful organization where thousands of children are going to school and getting an education in India, Nepal and Philippines. mail me at sam@vonumu.com
