Mission Statement

Through the commitment of James Madison University, the VA-DC FIRST LEGO League and FIRST LEGO League (FLL) is a result of an exciting alliance between FIRST and the LEGO Company. Guided by adult mentors and their own imaginations, FLL students solve real-world engineering challenges, develop important life skills, and learn to make positive contributions to society. FLL provides students age 9-14 with an opportunity to challenge their math and science skills in an internationally recognized competitive environment. FLL combines a hands-on, interactive robotics program with a sports-like atmosphere. Teams of up to 10 players focus on team building, problem solving, creativity, and analytical thinking to develop a well thought out solution to a problem currently facing the world - the Challenge.

Description

Regional qualifying tournaments are held around the state of Virginia and in Washington DC on weekends during the month of November. We need volunteers to serve as referees, judges, timers, score keepers and just general help. The 18 regional qualifying Tournaments normally support between 16 and 32 teams and require between 20 and 40 volunteers. The championship tournament is held on the campus of James Madison University on the first weekend in December. The championship tournament supports 100 teams and requires a small army of volunteers. No experience is required and training will be provided to any position requiring judging or knowledge of the rules.
