Mission Statement
HEALTH & WELFARE COUNCIL OF LONG ISLAND (HWCLI) is Long Island's regional, most comprehensive, nonprofit membership organization for health and human service providers. For over 60 years, HWCLI has served the interests of poor and vulnerable people on Long Island by convening, representing, and supporting the non-profit agencies that serve them; and through
- Illuminating the issues that critically impact them
- Organizing community and regional responses to their needs
- Advocacy
- Research
- Policy analysis
- Providing services, information and education
- Capacity building.
Description
To carry out its mission, HWCLI utilizes two interrelated strategies: programs/services and public policy/advocacy. While HWCLI provides direct services to individuals and families through multiple initiatives, its advocacy efforts address systemic issues and barriers on the local, State and Federal levels. Currently, HWCLI responds to Long Island's needs through its four focus areas: economic stability, hunger security, access to healthcare and disaster preparedness.
