Description
Since our incorporation in 1985, NAMI-NYS has become New York’s leader in supporting and educating New Yorkers impacted by mental health issues and a preeminent t voice advocating on behalf of individuals living with a mental illness and their families.
In conjunction with our local affiliates around the state, NAMI-NYS is a national leader in producing peer-led NAMI Signature Programs to individuals and families at no cost to members of the public. These life-changing programs help people navigate the recovery process as well as guide families and friends on how to support a loved one living with psychiatric disorder, while also managing your own self-care. NAMI-NYS is also available to introduce critical conversations about mental health to schools, organizations and businesses. NAMI-NYS also offers other unique tools to educate and broaden the understanding of mental health. Our annual education conference brings together national leaders in the treatment of psychiatric disorders, renowned mental health advocates and celebrities who have dedicated themselves to expanding awareness of mental health to discuss the leading issues impacting the delivery of mental health services. NAMI-NYS is a powerful voice for change and constant presence at the New York State Capitol and within the halls of power, advocating for increased access to mental health services, insurance reforms, the need for New York to reimagine crisis situations and calling for improvements between law enforcement and those living with a mental illness.
