Mission Statement

Youth In Focus (formerly Community LORE) is a non-profit consulting and training organization dedicated to institutional change and social justice. Youth In Focus promotes and supports youth-led research, evaluation and planning (Youth REP) in communities and youth-serving organizations. We believe that having "youth in focus" is a crucial step in fostering youth development and well-being, effective and innovative programs and organizations, and just and sustainable communities. Getting "youth in focus" requires that youth develop the capacities to serve as organizational and community leaders, adults learn to partner with youth in organizational and community development, and institutions are structured to sustain effective youth leadership.

Description

Youth In Focus engages in a range of activities to promote and support Youth REP: Consulting Services Stepping Stones is a comprehensive package of training, coaching, and technical support services to help youth-serving organizations implement and sustain Youth REP. Stepping Stones outcomes include a pilot Youth REP project, staff trained to facilitate Youth REP processes, customized curriculum resources, and a plan for sustaining Youth REP. Youth In Focus also offers two-day Youth REP orientation workshops, two-hour Youth REP presentations, and customized strategic and policy consulting. Resource Development and Dissemination Youth In Focus maintains a small library of resources, publishes a newsletter, and writes articles on Youth REP. We are in the process of editing our Youth REP curriculum into a resource guide. Resources will soon be available at this website. Education and Advocacy Youth In Focus staff and associates write articles for publication, present at a wide range of meetings and conferences, and convene and participate in related networks of practitioners, scholars, activists, funders, and policy-makers.
