Mission Statement

Keep Memory Alive raises awareness and funds to support research and treatment for neurocognitive disorders, and also enjoys making a national impact through its collaborative research initiatives and public policy work. In short, Keep Memory Alive is dedicated to creating and preserving memory.

Description

In association with Keep Memory Alive, the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health offers medical, psychological and social services for persons suffering from cognitive loss disorders.

The "cognitive loss disorders" can be most easily recognized as the disorders which cause memory loss, but there are other groups of cognitive functions, called "domains." Other cognitive domains include language skills, visual spatial skills, frontal lobe skills such as judgment and wisdom, and many others. Some diseases affect these non-memory cognitive domains more so than memory.

Although Alzheimer’s disease and its related disorders are the most common of the diseases we evaluate and treat, there are many other causes of cognitive loss, such as Parkinson’s disease, depression, head trauma, vascular disease of the brain, and others. We work with patients and families suffering from these diseases as well.

Complementing excellent medical care, Keep Memory Alive and the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health’s focus on caregivers affirms that neurocognitive diseases impact not just the patient but everyone involved in offering care and support. Research indicates that caregiving is a risk factor to the health and wellbeing of the caregiver. They may be at increased risk for hypertension, cardiovascular disease, depression as well as other adverse health outcomes.
