Mission Statement

Best Buddies Connecticut is dedicated to enhancing the lives of people with intellectual disabilities by providing opportunities for one-to-one friendships and integrated employment.

Description

Best Buddies demonstrates its mission through six separate and distinct programs. Best Buddies Middle and High Schools matches students with intellectual disabilities with their non-disabled peers in one-to-one friendships through chapter activities within the schools. Best Buddies Colleges pairs up college students with persons with intellectual disabilities in the community for friendship and socialization. Best Buddies Jobs trains and prepares persons with intellectual disabilities for white collar employment. Best Buddies Citizens matches people with intellectual disabilities with volunteers from the community in one-to-one friendships. Our latest program, e-buddies bridges the technological divide for persons with and without intellectual disabilities by providing an online penpal in another geographic location. This program has the sponsorship of AOL America.

Joining the Best Buddies Citizens Program has been one of the best decisions of my life! I love having my buddy, Genna in my life and enjoying all of the awesome times that we have going to paint parties, baking cupcakes, going out for dinner and drinks, and more!!!I also enjoy going to the bimonthly group outings that Best Buddies organizes. I definitely recommend everyone who has the time to commit to a new friendship to join Best Buddies! It will make your life so much richer!

Best Buddies is an amazing organization that connects two people in a real, meaningful friendship. (Typically one person with some type of disability, and one person without any disabilities). I joined over a year ago and gained one of my best friends from it. We do fun things like bake, go to the mall, go to the movies, exercise (mostly Zumba!), and text. My life has been filled with so much happiness since joining. I recommend this program to anyone who wants to feel good and have fun with a new friend!
