Mission Statement

Since 1985 CATRA has offered an opportunity for Capital Area residents from all generations with all types of special and typical needs to establish an atmosphere of support, respect, and health in an equestrian farm environment while offering a therapeutic riding experience to those able to benefit from it.

Description

CATRA is a horse farm in Grantville, PA, where special needs children and adults ride horses for therapy and recreation. We believe in pet therapy, as well, so we have many animals besides horses, including dogs, cats, donkeys, mules, goats, miniature horses, guinea pigs, rabbits, chickens, and a pig. The farm is run by volunteers. Social opportunities for rider families and volunteers include horse shows, 4-H, picnic, Valentine party, bowling party, holiday party, and organization fundraisers CATRA-Thon and the "Miles for Smiles" Motorcyle Ride.

They were fully unprepared to have volunteers and without support of any kind the expectations were unbelievable. "Work 'em hard they ain's coming back." is what I heard the owner say to someone who was watching as we volunteered.

This is an awesome organization where I have the opportunity to work with a wide variety of both people and animals. I have been there 18 months and thoroughly enjoyed everyday.

CATRA is a great place to volunteer. I have been volunteering there for 10-15 years. Everyone is very friendly. If you have never been around a horse before, they will help you learn all you need to know. There is something for everyone to do, and you will have fun meeting new people.
