Here's a sample of our volunteer opportunities:VIEW AS
The mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cape Cod and the Islands is to promote the healthy development of children through the nurturing of coninuing, one-to-one friendships with caring, responsible adults, supported by trained professional staff.
Since 1974, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cape Cod and the Islands has matched children facing adversity with caring, responsible adult volunteers who change their lives for the better, forever.
Our program model is simple and effective. Big Brother and Big Sister volunteers ("Bigs") meet with a child ("Little") on a one-to-one basis for a few hours every other week. Whether it be riding a bike, taking a walk, playing catch, or just hanging out--the time spent together is always memorable! This is a free program and our professionally trained staff provides ongoing support to Big/Little matches through regular contact with all participants. The match commitment is one year, though many Bigs and Littles opt to continue beyond this time frame.
Children on Cape Cod and the Islands are facing the highest juvenile crime rate in Massachusetts. The the past five years, the Cape & Islands has seen a 65% increase in families living at or below the poverty level--the highest increase in the state. Additionally, there are more than 2,800 children between the ages of 7-12 living in single parent, under-resourced households on Cape Cod and the Islands. The needs of our community are high, but the positive impact of our prorgam is clear. With the care and adult mentoring of compassionate Bigs, local children gain confidence, do better in school, and stay on the right path to reach their potential.
