Mission Statement
The goals of the Carolina Marathon Association are to promote health and fitness; establish the Greater Columbia area as a nationally recognized center for running events, primarily long distance; promote the community and economic development by enhancing the Greater Columbia area's reputation regionally and nationally; improve the public health by promoting appropriate physical activity; provide opportunities for participation of youth in health and fitness activities; position CMA to submit competitive bids for future championship and Olympic Trial events:
Description
The CMA hosts two events in Columbia, South Carolina: the Providence Heart & Sole Women's 5 Mile Race and the Lexington Medical Center Governor's Cup Road Race (Half Marathon, 8K, 4Mile Walk & Kid's Run). The Heart & Sole 5 Miler raises awareness of Heart Disease and the Governor's Cup raises awareness of obesity in SC. A portion of the proceeds from teh Governor's Cup go to Eat Smart, Move More South Carolina (http://esmmsc.org/)
