Mission Statement

Witness to Innocence is an educational and human rights organization made up and led in part by former exonerated death row prisoners. Death row survivors speak to colleges, faith-based organizations, and civic organizations around the country on their experiences on death row, prison conditions, compensation issues, and the inequities of the U.S. criminal justice system in general.

Description

Witness to Innocence is the only national organization of exonerated death row survivors and their loved ones. In addition to comprising a unique speakers bureau of exonerated death row prisoners, Witness to Innocence members also testfiy before state legislatures and conduct regular interviews with the media, both here and abroad. Witness to Innocence members were instrumental in the successful campaigns to abolish the death penalty in New Mexico and New Jersey.
