Mission Statement

Connecting People to Peace through Service- Service For Peace is an independent nonprofit organization providing service and learning opportunities through community projects which promote transformational and sustainable personal and community development around the world. We bring together people and partners of diverse faiths, ethnicities, nationalities, generations, and cultures to address profound social needs by discovering commonality and genuine appreciation for differences - all through service. We believe that peace begins with the inner peace fostered by service to others and that active cooperation provides the foundation and the real hope for peace.

Communities of Peace Initiative

In 2008, SFP realized the need to focus our programs in specific areas, rather than doing programs in different locations, in order to increase our impact on communities and help them transform into Communities of Peace. Thus was born the Communities of Peace (CP) initiative. A CP can take many forms. For example, in many nations, small, rural communities have been identified as CPs whereas in Miami, Florida, the Yvonne Learning Center (a private school) has been identified as a Community of Peace. Both of these models fit our definition, which reads, "A Community of Peace is a community in which the ethic of service prevails, uniting all of the various facets of the community around common development goals."

We now have CPs in over 20 nations and most of our Global PeaceMakers programs are centered on helping these communities transform into Communities of Peace.
