Description

At HOPE, we believe that consumer-run doesn't mean non-professional. HOPE has been providing peer support services since the mid-1980s. The Nueva Luz Resource & Advocacy Center was incorporated in 1992 and has continued to grow since then, serving as a peer-supportive adjunct to clinical behavioral health settings. Through partnerships with other community agencies, Nueva Luz helps 40-50 members each day to embrace their individual treatment goals. Nueva Luz members participate in a wide variety of activities to build skills and gain support from peer mentors and each other. Breakfast and lunch are provided to members each day. HOPE also operates the Warm Line, a peer-to-peer, non-emergency call-in service for individuals living with mental illness or addiction. The Warm Line is staffed by trained employees and volunteers who serve as peer mentors.

Outreach and advocacy are critical to increasing education and awareness of mental illness and substance abuse in the community. To promote community awareness and support, HOPE participates in outreach events throughout the year and works together with other local behavioral health agencies in outreach efforts.
