Mission Statement

Orange Street Cats, Inc. is a 501c(3) not-for-profit who is organized exclusively for charitable and educational purposes to reduce the overpopulation of homeless and unwanted cats in Albany and Greene Counties. We will achieve this by providing education and funding for a low-cost spay/neuter program, which will help reduce both over breeding and the cruelty to animals.

Nothing herein shall authorize this corporation, directly or indirectly, to engage in, or include among its purpose and powers, any of the special purposes and powers reserved to societies for the prevention of cruelty to animals under section 1403(b) of the Not-for-Profit Corporation Law, or any other statutory provisions granting special purposes or powers to such societies.

Description

After realizing what a group of total strangers could accomplish with hard work and determination, our group of volunteers decided to continue collaborating together, and formalized the group Orange Street Cats. As a team we decided to help avoid a situation like the original rescue effort by providing education and funding for low-cost spay/neuter to owners needing financial assistance in the greater Capital District. Low-cost spay/neuter is the most effective approach to improving the quality of life for cats as well as controlling the number of unwanted cats in our shelters and our streets.

Our primary focus is not to take in more cats; however we understand that due to the nature of our work there will be cats who need our help due to extreme circumstances. For example, like little Tabitha, who won the hearts of people throughout the Capital District with her amazing determination to live. We have kept a small group of foster care providers formed in the beginning, and are in the process of growing this network.

We invite you to join us in the effort to help our rescued cats by opening up your home. Our organization relies entirely on donors' generosity to fund our activities. Please consider a gift to Orange Street Cats...every gift matters and every little bit helps. Or volunteer, by fostering a cat or helping at an event.
