Mission Statement

The Southeast Seattle Senior Foundation
is governed by the philosophy that older people will live longer
and maintain a higher quality of life, if they can live independently
in a diverse setting with senior support services
and traditional support structures in close proximity.

It is our mission to create and maintain at The Brighton
quality, safe, and affordable housing for seniors, in an environment
in which a sense of community is promoted and a positive relationship with the Southeast Seattle Senior Center is sustained.

Description

Southeast Seattle Senior Foundation (SSSF) has owned and operated The Brighton Apartments in Seattle's Rainier Valley since 1999. A fine building when new (in the late 1960's) The Brighton had deteriorated and become both an eyesore and a crime magnet in a marginal area. Neighbors from the business community and the Senior Center next door formed the Foundation and raised funds to purchase the building and rehabilitate it, with a focus on serving low- to middle-income seniors.

Now home to more than 235 people in 124 spacious units, we pride ourselves on our community spirit, below market rents, unique structure and diverse population, which includes many people from East Africa.

Only one person in each unit needs to be 55 years of age or older, which allows independent seniors to remain independent, and enables those who prefer to live with family, friends, or caregivers of any age to do so.

Our lovely park-like grounds include plenty of parking, a rose garden, and a private "Pea Patch" with 24 raised bed for resident use. The daily presence of our on-site management team helps to ensure a friendly, clean, wholesome environment for all.

In addition, Muslim Housing Services has their offices in The Brighton, Seattle Central Community College provides a fine teacher for on-site ESL classes for beginners, and residents of the Brighton receive a free membership to Southeast Seattle Senior Center, right next door.

The Brighton is a great place to live and to work, thanks to our terrific Board of Directors, committed staff, and satisfied residents.
