Mission Statement

City Guides volunteers are serious about sharing the fun of discovering San Francisco and its neigborhoods. Our purpose is to perpetuate the history and folklore of San Francisco and to celebrate its rich history of cultural diversity. And in the spirit of our primary sponsor, the San Francisco Public Library, we provide this service free of charge.

City Guides, founded in 1978, is an organization of more than 200 volunteers who lead history and architectural walking tours in San Francisco, free of charge.

Because I run this organization and therefore I know the impact it has made on San Francisco and its wonderful residents. Our guides have been providing free walking tours of San Francisco to visitors and locals since 1978 to the tune of tens of thousands of volunteer hours. We have been highlighted by the media and honored by Senators, Mayors and Supervisors for our volunteer's dedication to this great city. We are always looking for new volunteer guides so email us at becomeaguide@sfcityguides.org today!
