Support is provided in a variety of ways, including companionship, socialization, and caregiver relief. There is no medical background needed - our Hospice volunteers do not interact with the patient in any medical or personal hygiene capacity (i.e., volunteers do not give baths, get the patient in/out of bed, or to/from the bathroom, give medication). Some examples of what a Direct Care Volunteer has the opportunity to do: Provide companionship Socialization and/or support to hospice patients and their families/caregivers Reading to the patient Playing games Writing letters to or on behalf of the patient Assisting with light household duties (watering plants, walking pets, washing dishes, emptying and taking out the garbage, etc. Volunteers make their own schedule!
