Volunteers get to make their own schedule! Our Non-medical Hospice Direct Care Volunteer provides support to patients living with a terminal illness, in addition to their caregivers and family. Support is provided in a variety of ways, including companionship, socialization, and caregiver relief. There is no medical background needed - our Hospice volunteers do not interact with the patient in any medical or personal hygiene capacity (i.e., volunteers do not give baths, get the patient in/out of bed, or to/from the bathroom, give medication). Some examples of what a Direct Care Volunteer has the opportunity to do: Provide companionship Socialization and/or support to hospice patients and their families/caregivers Reading to the patient Playing games Writing letters to or on behalf of the patient Assisting with light household duties (watering plants, walking pets, washing dishes, emptying and taking out the garbage, etc.

You can come to the office or work from your home to help with: answering phones, organizing and compiling Admission Packets. Making copies, scanning, and filing. Make calls to patients and their families/caregivers. Making Bereavement calls to families. Helping with monthly Bereavement mailings, assisting staff with the planning and preparation for the Memorial Service, Veterans Celebration, etc. We will provide you a computer if needed. Attending Community events.

Assist with answering phones, transferring calls / or making calls for staff. Organizing and compiling Admission packets. Making copies, scanning documents and filing. Sending receiving and/or distributing faxes. Helping with monthly Bereavement mailings and calls. Assisting staff with planning and preparation for events such as employee appreciation, volunteer appreciation, annual Memorial Service, annual Veterans Celebration, ect. Make calls to current patients to check on them or see if they have any needs. You can do all this from the office or home.
