Mission Statement

The mission of CASA is to advocate for and support abused and neglected children who are involved in court proceedings, to ensure their right to safe, permanent homes.

Description

Anne Arundel County CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) is one of more than 700 CASA programs nationwide that advocate for and support abused and neglected children involved in the court system to ensure their right to safe, stable, and nurturing homes. More than 550 children were found abused and neglected in our county last year alone. On any given day, approximately 200 children are living in temporary foster care in the Anne Arundel community. It typically takes an average of one and one-half years before these children are placed in a safe and permanent home. Each CASA volunteer is matched with a child and is trained to speak up for that child's best interest - judicially, medically, emotionally and socially. It has been demonstrated that abused and neglected children who have a CASA volunteer move through the child welfare system faster, and get their needs met more frequently.
