Here's a sample of our volunteer opportunities:VIEW AS
Our mission is to teach tennis and character qualities, and promote reading and nutrition to urban youth. Help them learn a healthy life-long sport, and have opportunities to participate in team competition. We use tennis as a means, through caring volunteers and professional programs, to provide character-building guidance, with love and encouragement for a brighter future, through faith-based teaching and mentoring.
UYTF operates all-volunteer, year-round programming in varying gym locations using tennis as a tool to reach, teach and mentor inner-city children, ages six to thirteen. Children are taught tennis with modern QuickStart Tennis techniques and introduced to fun-filled team competition. With love and encouragement, the children learn self-confidence, teamwork, and discipline. Each session also includes a "chalk-talk" lesson in a character principle or nutrition advice, and a book reading assignment; as well as a nutritional post-session snack. During this summer, a tennis camp (our seventh annual) is held at the only municipal courts in the city of Saginaw. Led by a USPTA certified instructors, volunteer instructors touch the lives of approximately 200 kids a year. We also maintain for the City the tennis facility, Garber Tennis Courts.
