Mission Statement

The opulent and historic Grand Opera House has been a landmark for the residents of Wilmington and the surrounding region for more than 139 years. During that time, the Grand has played host to thousands of renowned entertainers and performing artists. The Grand provides much more than just performances by talented touring artists, however, it also acts as a vital contributor to the cultural vibrancy of the community, with a number of distinctive and successful educational and outreach programs. The Arts Academy at the Grand is an educational institution that offers its students the ability to learn and discover while practicing and performing in an historical venue with some of the finest musicians in the area. The Grand Opera House is also the residence of the Delaware Symphony, Opera Delaware, and First State Ballet Theatre. Between the Grand, its resident performing companies, and rentals, the building hosts more than 200 events a year, and brings more than 120,000 people into downtown Wilmington and through its doors.
