Mission Statement

The Arts & Business Council of Chicago builds dynamic partnerships between the arts and business that enhance the management capacity of arts organizations and facilitate business participation in the arts. A&BC-Chicago achieves its mission by: Promoting Business Volunteerism - creating opportunities for business professionals to get involved in the arts as a way of giving back to the community, enriching their lives, and fostering leadership and civic responsibility; Lending Expertise - providing year-round seminars, symposia, and educational programs that help arts professionals and their boards master the business of the arts; Providing Support - offering a comprehensive array of business assessment and advisory services to help non-profit arts organizations grow and thrive.


The primary programs through which A&BC serves metro Chicago's nonprofit arts organizations and professional volunteers include: On BOARD, a program that recruits, trains and matches business professionals seeking to join a nonprofit arts board of directors. On BOARD candidates receive in-depth training on how to be an effective nonprofit board member, and receive coaching and a customized plan on how to find the perfect board match in the arts; Business Volunteers for the Arts (BVA), a program that trains and helps place professionals and retirees with business talents on management-level projects with community arts organizations. Projects include: strategic planning, marketing, business planning, IT, and human resources; Workshops, offered 8-10 times a year to arts organizations on a range of management areas, including: marketing, branding, board development, fundraising, audience development, and pricing.
