Mission Statement

AVID is a program with 30 years of success. The mission of AVID is to lower the achievement gap. The AVID Elective is designed for students who are statistically and historically underrepresented at the college level, and to give these students the confidence, skills, and knowledge it will take to get them into college.

Description

AVID has several components to ensure that students are excelling in all academic areas. One important component is a twice weekly tutorial. In the tutorial, which ideally has a ratio of 7:1, the students bring higher-level questions from one of their academic classes. The tutorial process helps the student come to a new understanding about this question.
