Originally, the mission of FEGS was to enhance the employablility and the success in the labor market of new immigrants and displaced workers. Through more than six decades of agency expansion into many human service disciplines, FEGS has remained committed to a comprehensive service delivery model that is flexible and responsive to the individual needs of people served, enabling them to acheive social and economic self-sufficiency.
Established in 1934, by the Federation of Jewish Philanthropies of NY, to find employment for unemployed men and women. FEGS has evolved to become the largest and most diversified private, not-for-profit health related and human service organization in the United States. With operations in over 258 facilities, residences, and off-site locations, FEGS has served more than two million people since its inception. Services are delivered in the areas of Employment & Training, Education & Youth, Career Development, Behavioral Health, Developmental Disabilities, Residential, Rehabilitation, Family Services and Homecare. FEGS operates programs throughout the metropolitan New York area, and provides consultation and technical assistance to government, organizations, and businesses throughout the United States and abroad. Six not-for-profit affiliated corporations, provide a diverse range of home healthcare, housing, and other services to the community, and four consulting corporations provide outsourcing and consulting services in the areas of information technology, human resources, group modalities in behavioral health services and temporary staffing. Additionally, FEGS has numerous affiliations and partnerships with public and private sector organizations and institutions.
