The Mycelium School will be a one-year international school in Western North Carolina for 18 to 30-year old demonstrated leaders from Brooklyn to Brunei to come together and learn from field experts within the realms of regenerative living and social entrepreneurship. Young leaders will be selected and invited to participate in a 9-month integrated curriculum that will be achieved through the methodology outlined below.
This understanding will be achieved through two principal components of the school:
1) Through 4-core elements - organic farming, foreign language, natural building/renewable energies and community-directed development - the students will develop their connectedness to the earth, society and themselves.
2) Social Entrepreneurship - As students cultivate their interests and skill sets, they will concurrently develop skills in marketing, fundraising, NGO/nonprofit start-up/management and sustainable development from tenured professionals. Throughout the course of the year, they will take these skills and apply them to a yearlong social enterprise, which they design under the tutelage of field professionals.
There school will also host visiting professors decided on and invited by the student body.
By bringing together young leaders from around the world and giving them the opportunity to define and pursue purpose, it will be they who change their lives and those within their communities, rather than an outside agency that often knows little of local culture, needs and values. We believe this to be the path to social change that is volitional and sustainable.
