The mission of Wu Yee Children's Services is to create opportunities for children to be healthy, for families to thrive, and for communities to be strong.
Established in 1977, Wu Yee Children's Services was formed by social workers in response to the lack of services for children and families in San Francisco's Chinatown. "Wu Yee" is a Cantonese phrase that means "protector of children." Today, Wu Yee serves over 7,500 families, children, and child care providers each year, the majority of whom are low-income recent immigrants, through its Child Development, Family Services, and Child Care Provider Services programs. Wu Yee's Child Development centers are located in San Francisco's Chinatown, Tenderloin, Visitacion Valley, Bayview/Hunters Point, OMI, Potrero Hill, and Western Addition neighborhoods.
