Mission Statement
Kendrick's mission has always been this: to use his talents to serve his community.
Description
Kendrick Meek was raised by his mother, Carrie Meek, a college professor whose dedication to her community led her to become a member of Congress. Kendrick took her lessons of commitment, responsibility and service with him to Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, where he worked his way through college with a football scholarship and as a skycap.
He joined the Florida Highway Patrol as a Trooper, earning citations for his work cracking down on drunk drivers. In 2002, when Kendrick saw his own daughter struggling in crowded classrooms, he led the effort to put class size limits in the state constitution, working successfully for a petition to get the measure on a ballot.
He served in the State House of Representatives from 1995-1998, and in the Florida Senate from 1999-2002. In 2002 Kendrick was elected to Congress, where he quickly became a leader in the fight to protect homeowners from predatory lenders and protect consumers from unfair overdraft fees.
Kendrick and his wife, Leslie, a former County Prosecutor, have two children, Lauren and Kendrick Jr.
