History of The Arc of Alameda County

Founded in 1950 by a group of parents with children who had developmental disabilities, The Arc has responded to the changing needs of our community - Alameda County.

Who We Are ....

The Arc of Alameda County is a non-profit organization committed to helping people who have developmental challenges lead rich, fulfilling lives by empowering them to fully utilize their abilities and community resources. Meaningful opportunities to grow and learn are provided through a variety of programs. Participation is based on the individual's informed choice.

Who We Serve....

We serve over 600 individuals with borderline to profound disabilities that range from mild to severe. With five program sites and dozens of community placements, we have a presence in every city and town in Alameda County.

Toddlers and preschoolers, ages 24 months to 5 years of age, with and without developmental delays are eligible for our integrated childcare program. Adults (18+) can participate in vocational or life skills training, employment development, computer workshops and more.
