Mission Statement

Rent Wars is a project that uses the video arts to advocate and educate about the different aspects of the housing crisis in New York City and it's painful effects on poor, working, and middle class families. Rent Wars: Ronin is an animated parody of housing court legal battles that entertains while educating the audience about the various housing issues, especially the plight of unrepresented tenants before the court. Rent Wars News is a monthly public access newmagazine that reports on the issues and introduces the audience to the players in the real life Rent Wars, and shines a spotlight on the shady mechanics of the housing court. In addition, we use the new media to provide a digest of tenant resources on our website as well as a public forum where they can find advice. We also hand out information fliers near the housing courts when our budget allows. Our mission is to help ease the housing crisis by giving tenants and small homeowners the knowledge with which to protect their rights and keep them from joining the growing ranks of the homeless.
