To provide for our emerging literacy needs through goal-directed, learner-centered tutoring; To support family learning via our Families for Literacy program and Mini-Learning Center; To support the learning efforts of all participants by providing the best possible training for volunteer tutors; To help empower learners so they may accomplish their goals and realize their dreams.
Literacy Plus, a free service of the Hayward Public Library, provides free literacy services to English-speaking adults and children in the Hayward area. We are committed to providing the highest quality volunteer-based literacy services. We have a popular homework help center for children, a Computer Learning Station, and small group classes for new readers. In the past 20 years, we've helped more than 2,500 people learn to read. Our next free Tutor Orientations for volunteer tutors in the adult program will be held on 1/9/07 and again on 1/16/07. Registration is required.
