Environmental Volunteers' mission is to teach local grade school children the wonder of, and the responsibility for, the environment through hands-on science and nature education.
For forty years, the Environmental Volunteers has shared the wonders of science with children, nurtured their love of and connection to nature, and sparked their interest in lifelong learning. The heart of our work is classroom-based natural science education and field trip programs, which we now deliver to 11,000 K-8 students and their 450 teachers annually. Our mission is to promote understanding of, and responsibility for, the environment through hands-on science education. We have 160 volunteer docents who donate over 2,500 hours annually teaching local students using a small group, hands-on, discovery-based approach. Our docents are trained in our San Jose State University-accredited teaching program. We teach eight broad science subjects in a grade-level appropriate manner. All Environmental Volunteers' programs support the California State Education Standards. Each of our 300+ teaching kits and animal mounts is meant to correlate to one or more of the State Standards.
