Mission Statement

The mission of the Partnership for the Public's Health is to develop effective, responsive and sustainable public health systems. Effective public health systems require a foundation of institutional infrastructure, policies and action that address and prevent public health problems while promoting community health. Such systems build upon a broad definition of health and shared accountability among residents, community organizations and health departmenrs for achieving community health improvement Goals

Description

Overview of the Initiative: Building Community-based Public Health Partnerships -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In 1999, The California Endowment (TCE) awarded approximately 37 million dollars over five years to the Public Health Institute (PHI) to plan and implement an initiative, the Partnership for the Public's Health, to stimulate the redesign of systems to protect and improve the public's health in communities throughout California. In order to promote sustainable public health systems, infrastructure and capacity that reflects community-based priorities and needs, the Partnership for the Public's Health, will focus effort in three main areas: at the local public health systems level, at the community (neighborhood, town, city) level and at the state policy level. The program will award approximately $25 million in grants to communities and local public health departments over the next four years. In addition, the Partnership will support and implement statewide advocacy, networking and learning opportunities to improve public health policies and practices that impact the ability of communities to address public health problems
