Mission Statement

Associated Marine Istitutes (AMI) is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping troubled youth develop into responsible and productive citizens. AMI's mission is to protect public safety and positively impact as many youth as possible through the efforts of a diverse and innovative staff. AMI works in partnership with youth agencies, local communities and families.

Description

In 1969, two boys who were wards of the state were given the opportunity to work on an Florida Atlantic University research vessel. One year later, the process was formalized and our first program was born to provide training and counseling to delinquent children referred by the courts. Today, AMI works with at-risk teens who are referred by the courts and by public schools. Today there are 53 marine & wilderness programs and 5 alternative education schools. Our reach has expanded to 8 states plus the Cayman Islands, and is growing. Success: More than 70% stay out of trouble when they leave. AMI will work with approximately 5000 kids in the year 2001 and has already served 48,000 kids since 1969.
