The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention Greater San Francisco Bay Area Chapter is looking for volunteers to serve on the Chapter Event Planning & Strategic Fundraising Committee, also known as the Fundraising Committee. This new overarching strategic planning committee will oversee all event planning for the chapter, including managing the Volunteer Planning Committees for each of our Chapter events (each event has an Event Chair and a planning committee). If you are interested in volunteering for any specific event, please indicate your interest and which areas you’d be willing to help with. The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention Greater San Francisco Bay Area & Northern California Coast Chapter is looking for Event Volunteers for the Arcata Out of the Darkness Community Walk. The 2024 event will be on Sunday September 8 at Arcata Plaza in Arcata, CA (date and location subject to change). Since the Arcata Walk began in 2015, our volunteers have raised over $186,500 and registered1,700+ walkers dedicated to preventing suicide and supporting survivors of loss in our community. Day of Event Volunteer roles vary based on number of available volunteers and can include responsibilities such as set up, registration, rest stops, safety team, route support, food and beverage area, clean up, and other roles. * **Volunteers and Groups of Volunteers under 18 years of age will need to attend with a parent or adult chaperone. Chaperone name and email must be confirmed in advance.** The AFSP Out of the Darkness Community Walks, held in hundreds of cities across the country, are the core of the Out of the Darkness movement, which began in 2004. These events give people the courage to open up about their own connections to the cause, and a platform to create a culture that’s smarter about mental health. Friends, family members, neighbors and coworkers walk side-by-side, supporting each other and in memory of those we’ve lost. The health and safety of our participants, staff and volunteers will be our top priorities as we make decisions about event details in our community, and we'll continue to offer options to participate online and in your neighborhoods. Adhering to the AFSP National standards, this committee promotes the image and branding both internally to Chapter members as well as to the larger community in an effort to maintain and continually enhance AFSP opportunities, programs, and events. The 2024 event will be on Sunday September 8 at Arcata Plaza. Since the Arcata Walk began in 2015, our volunteers have raised an astonishing $186,000 and registered 1,700- local walkers dedicated to preventing suicide and supporting survivors of loss in our community. The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention Greater San Francisco Bay Area Chapter is looking for volunteers to serve on the Finance Committee. This new Chapter Committee will oversee the development of the Chapter budget and ensure accurate tracking, monitoring, and accountability for Chapter funds. They will also oversee all fundraising activities of the Chapter and ensures that these activities raise adequate funds to support the Chapter budget. In addition to required Chapter fundraising activities, members of the committee may also identify and solicit funds from external sources of support, including major gifts from key corporate and private sponsors, as well as third party fundraisers.
