The Urban Wilderness Project works to restore and encorage positive communities by providing culturally and environmentally based servce ;earning projects rooted in social change.
To empower and mobilze individuals in their communties to remove the pyscholgical, social, racial, gender, disabilities and sexual orientation barriers asscoiated with current land and water use attititudes, practices and policies. To provides programs and training which reveal, acknowledge and address the global, historical and peristent tramaus associated with environmentalism as defined by dominant culture.
We believe that stewardship of both the natural and urban environments is fundamentally flawed because it is built upon , strenghtened by and supported systems of opprestion that continue to disempower marginalized commnunities.
We believe that unearthing the root of environmental degradation is a prerequite to all restoration work.
We believe that the root case of the current lcoal, national and global enironmental crisis is entwined with race, gender and economic opression.
