Mission Statement
Advocates For Mental Health Of Wayne And Holmes Counties is a non-profit corporation that provides a place for people with mental health concerns and psychiatric disabilities to help one another and themselves along the road to wellness and recovery. We do this through self-help, peer support, education and advocacy activities.
Description
We are a 501 (c) 3 corporation and are governed by a Board of nine consumers who are elected from the membership. Advocates sponsors a self-help group "A Journey To Recovery" as well as computer training in M.S.Word, Paint and Corel Painter Classic, others to be added. We have a program called Computer Recovery that collects donations of computer equipment and places the computers on long term loan with consumers. We have designed a survey under a "Discovering Diverse Audiences" grant from the Ohio Arts Council. The survey collects data regarding previous art experience, desires for future art training and barriers to art training. We are open to anyone concerned about mental health and have both consumers and spoouses as members. Advocates began in 1999 and has grown gradually as we have expanded services. Members are encouraged to volunteer to help others, to advocate and to plan out a personal path to recovery. We plan to host a web site in the near future. Advocate meetings are the second and fourth Thursday each month from 7:00-9:00 P.M.
