Mission Statement

VA Medical Reserve Corps Mission:

"Community volunteers prepared to support ongoing public health initiatives and emergencies in localities throughout Virginia."

The purpose of MRC units is to:

  • Recruit health care professional and support volunteers
  • Create a framework to match volunteers' skills with the community's needs
  • Train volunteers to respond better to the needs of individual communities thereby enhancing local emergency response efforts
  • Provide reserve capacity at the community level to respond to local public health needs and priorities

Description

MRC units are community oriented group of volunteers who want to help supplement existing emergency and public health resources to the Central Virginia community.

MRC Volunteers may be called upon to dispense medications, administer vaccinations, provide care to evacuees living in emergency shelters, or assist in many other ways. MRC Volunteers are healthcare professionals (physicians, nurses, pharmacists, dentists, veterinarians, x-ray technicians, certified nurse's aides, etc.), administrative professionals (office managers, communication specialists, clerical staff, etc.), or any community member willing to help.

The Blue Ridge MRC is comprised of volunteers from the cities of Bedford and Lynchburg and the counties of Appomattox, Amherst, Campbell, and Bedford counties who are willing to support public health!
