Mission Statement

The Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International is dedicated to the conservation and protection of gorillas and their habitats in Africa. We are committed to promoting continued research on their threatened ecosystems and education about their relevance to the world in which we live.

In collaboration with government agencies and other international partners, we also provide assistance to local communities through education, health, training and economic development initiatives.

Description

The Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International protects gorillas in Rwanda and the Democratic Repubic of Congo. We operate the Karisoke Research Center in Rwanda, the world's centerpiece for the study and protection of the mountain gorilla. Dr. Dian Fossey founded Karisoke in 1967. We also work with national parks and community-based reserves in Congo to protect the Grauer's (eastern lowland) gorilla.

The Fossey Fund also supports community programs in Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo to help local people achieve better health and livelihoods, which benefits the ecosystem shared by all.
