HUGE Improv Theater is an artist-led company dedicated to supporting the Twin Cities improv community through performance and education.
The Twin Cities is becoming known for its exciting improvisational theater culture and HUGE Theater seeks to firmly establish not only a home for improvisation in the Twin Cities but also the Twin Cities as place to see some of the best improvised theater in the nation
HUGE Theater is as been at the forefront of this improvisational theater growth by producing shows such as Improv-A-Go-Go (now in its eighth season) and co-producing the Twin Cities Improv Festival which concluded it's third season this last June.
The Twin Cities is blessed with several smaller theaters packing people in nightly for solo performances, sketch-comedy, and improv shows. There are interested students from all walks of life participating in three well-established schools; the Brave New Institute, ComedySportz and Stevie Ray's.
But there is still a striking lack of a stage devoted to long form improvisation, the art or emphasis on creating theater that is improvised unscripted as opposed to improvising "games" or simply improvising within a scripted piece. HUGE Theater aims to change that, to give improvised theater a stage and to further push Twin Cities improv into national prominence.
HUGE Theater is a group of three improvisational artists formed in 2005 that have helped to put Twin Cities improv on the national map in their own unique ways individually as well as collectively. HUGE has staged shows at local theater venues, classes and our on-going collaborations to theaters such as the Brave New Workshop as space is available and schedules allow.
Improv is theater for the masses. It has no barriers to participation because it requires no physical ability, grand props or elaborate musical scores. It only requires imagination and an audience. The raw material of improvisation are the honest expressions, experiences and passions of the performers and audience. It's a fresh, immediate form of live performance. Additionally, improvisation is built on conquering fears and working collaboratively in a positive environment. HUGE Theater believes that if people can improvise together and laugh together, they can do anything together.
With our curriculum and selection of productions expanding quickly, as well as ever-growing audience and community interest in improvisation, HUGE has undertaken the decision to procure our own theater space.
