Mission Statement

Project Youth Engaged in Service (YES) seeks to promote service-learning as a sustainable teaching strategy throughout the Oakland Unified School District.

Description

Project Youth Engaged in Service (Project YES) employs nine AmeriCorps Fellows and seven support staff to design and implement service-learning programs in middle schools in the Oakland Unified School District. Project YES AmeriCorps Fellows serve as role models, after-school club leaders, partner teachers, providers of technical assistance, program assistants, and drivers at one school. During the school year, Project YES runs after-school and Saturday community service clubs for middle school youth at its school sites. During the summer, Project YES runs an all-day, six-week summer service-learning program for 180 middle school youth.
