Mission Statement
The Winnebago County Literacy Council (WCLC) creates opportunities for people to read, write, and speak English, and perform everyday skills with confidence.
Description
Since 1989, the Winnebago County Literacy Council (WCLC) has offered free one-to-one tutoring and support services to adults reading at low to intermediate literacy levels. WCLC is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization not affiliated with the Winnebago County government. It is supported by grants, generous donations and the passion of volunteers.
Adult literacy is the single greatest factor affecting our economy. Those who cannot read and write have difficulty in meeting their needs and becoming self sufficient.
There is no cost for learners to attend these classes or to work with a private tutor. All curriculum and supplemental materials are offered free of charge.
Classes are held in variety of locations; however, private tutoring generally takes place at the Oshkosh Public Library, where the WCLC is located.
