Mission Statement

Our mission is to feed people who suffer from hunger in the Washington Metropolitan Area by acquiring food and distributing it through our network of member feeding programs; and to educate, empower and enlighten the community about the issues of hunger and nutrition.

The Capital Area Food Bank is the largest public, non profit food and nutrition education resource in the Washington Metropolitan Area. We are a comprehensive service organization that distributes over 20 million pounds of food annually through our network of over 700 member feeding programs through our warehouses in DC and Northern Virginia. These programs are then enabled to serve more than 1.7 million meals each month. Our education and advocacy programs work to keep all members of the community, hungry or not, informed, empowered, and aware of the issues facing the hungry in our area.
