Mission Statement

The Next Step Domestic Violence Project of Hancock County, Maine is a private, nonprofit organization devoted to serving the needs of people affected by domestic violence, while striving to prevent and end the cycle of domestic violence through education and social change.

Description

The Next Step serves people who are affected by domestic abuse from their intimate partner. All services are free and confidential. Trained staff and volunteers answer a 24-hour per day hotline to help people who need to talk or are in crisis. We also have walk-in services, limited free legal help, a safe home network, and support groups. We promote zero tolerance for domestic abuse in our community through education programs offered to churches, schools, hospitals, employers, law enforcment and civic groups. We also work when possible toward holding abusers accountable for what they do, and monitor abuser education groups.
