Mission Statement

The purpose of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition to all childern and adults with developmental disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympians and the community.

Description

Special Olympics Arizona has over 8,000 registered athletes in the state of Arizona and is divided into 16 different areas throughout the state. Volunteers are invited to become involved as a "Day-Of" Volunteer at local, regional and state level competitions or be involved on a more day-to-day basis with a particular delegation or local program. Volunteers who have regular, close physical contact with SO Athletes are required to fill out a volunteer application and have a Criminal background report completed by Special Olympics.
